Karin Hueber presents in the Schneelisaal the series Obstacles (double step / Chins Supporter; resting mauve / Press-up Supporter; beached whale / Stretch Supporter; flabby rose / Crunches Supporter), all 2015, a series of works whose origins are rooted in an exploration of Parkour, a type of athletic sport practiced in urban space. In an earlier presentation at Kunsthaus Baselland, the objects formed an abstract circuit of obstructions running throughout the gallery spaces and had been installed by the artist in cooperation with athletes, known as Traceurs and Traceuses. In that context, the elements were leaned up against the architecture, onto walls and columns and strapped down using tensioning straps. Here, Karin Hueber presents the pastel colored objects in a new way, detached from the architecture and positioned on their own specially designed mounts. They are reminiscent both of abstract sculptures and the designs of sports equipment and of furniture and objects, and at times oscillate between being in motion and being stationary, function and dysfunction, abstraction and figuration.
